Hints & Tips
Setting up your Xbox360:
One main thing to remember when setting up your Xbox360. It gets HOT! and heat affects performance, so set it up to maximise ventilation. Set it up on a hard, clean surface, with some clear space either side and above (whether standing or lying down). I personally have mine standing with about 5cm clearance either side and 10cm clearance above it, this setup has been the best performing for me. Keep it dusted regularly with a dry, lint-free, cloth, as dust can form around the vents and clog up causing restricted ventilation and therefore heat build-up.
High Definition and New Zealand:
Yes there is an Xbox360 (the Elite) coming with an HDMI port and it is coming soon. If you don't know HDMI is the only (current) true digital connection that allows for transportation of media at resolutions up to 1080p. In New Zealand we currently only have access to an Xbox360 with component cabling, which allows for transportation of media up to 1080i resolution.
Before you rush out and get the latest and greatest there is a little thing to consider...your tv. If your tv can't broadcast a resolution of 1080p, let alone HD at all, then be prepared to spend several thousand on a screen that can. This is because not all HD ready tv's can actually reproduce 1080p, in fact most tend to go only as high as 1080i which suits your current model Xbox360 to the ground.
Are you thinking about getting a high definition tv for your console but not sure on the quality difference? Let me tell you it is amazing, and when they are side-by-side it almost makes you sick. if you want to spend the extra and get a 1080p capable tv and the Xbox360 Elite to get the best, then the best is what you'll get. Whatever you have...enjoy.
Xbox Live
When you are on Xbox live be aware of the time you are on it. You may experience severe lag when trying to use it in peak times. Broadband performance is affected by distance to the exchange and the traffic using it. Therefore the more local people attempting to use the internet, the worse your Xbox live experience will be. To minimise the frustration, log-on during low volume use, generally not early evening when everyone has come home from work and is checking and sending emails or are touring the internet after school or dinner.
